Ep 521: Jeremy Workman Returns

Nov 15, 2018

[5 mins. 14 secs.] Filmmaker Jeremy Workman returns to the podcast for his 5th visit. He first appeared on the podcast in October of 2014 with his father, the filmmaker Chuck Workman, on Episode 250 where he discussed his feature documentary "Magical Universe"; then back in November of 2016 on Episode 379 with filmmakers Sam Cullman & Benjamin Rosen to promote "True New York", a collection of unique documentary shorts about New York City. It wasn't long before he was back in March of 2018 on Episode 467 with podcasters James Hancock of Wrong Reel and Chico Leo, where we discussed the career of Paul Schrader. The last time Jeremy was on was at SxSW 20118, Episode 477, at the world premiere of his new film "The World Before Your Feet", the same film we discuss today. Back at SxSW we were joined by the film's subject, Matt Green. This time it's just Jeremy and myself.

There are 8,000 miles of roads and paths in New York City and for the past six years Matt Green has been walking them all – every street, park, cemetery, beach, and bridge. It's a five-borough journey that stretches from the barbershops of the Bronx to the forests of Staten Island, from the Statue of Liberty to Times Square, with Matt amassing a surprisingly detailed knowledge of New York's history and people along the way. "The World Before Your Feet" will premiere theatrically at New York's Quad Cinema on Wednesday, November 21st. Then it will screen in Los Angeles at the Landmark Nuart Cinema beginning Friday, November 23rd. Check the film's website for Q&A appearances which include Jeremy, Matt Green, and producer Jesse Eisenberg.
